Florence Catherwood Fennell

Mrs. Florence Catherwood Fennell, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 30, 2012 after a brief illness. She was born on November 16, 1919 in Savannah and was the daughter of the late Samuel C. and Annie K. Catherwood.
Florence was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a life-long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she served for 45 years in the Sunday School Nursery and also served on the Altar Guild. Florence was a graduate of Savannah High School and was a member of the Happy Geechees. She was also a Girl Scout leader for ten years. As an active member of the Benedictine Athletic Association for many years, Florence was honored with several awards, including the Gold Medal of Excellence and the Woman of the Year award.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Robert H. Fennell, Sr., two daughters, Halley F. Page of Athens, GA and Patty F. Cannady Bill of Savannah; three sons, Robert H. Fennell, Jr. Sandra and David W. Fennell Dianne both of Savannah, and Steven R. Fennell Cathy of Nashville, TN; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Billy R. Catherwood of Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 1 from 3:00 to 5:00 at Fox and Weeks, Hodgson Chapel, with the funeral to take place on Monday, April 2 at 11:00 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 10 West 31st Street. Burial will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery. Her grandsons will be the pallbearers.
Remembrances may be made in Florence's memory to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Benedictine Military School.
